
Kathy Colby
President
Kathy Colby is Founder and President of Financial Independents, Inc. and has over 38 years of experience in the financial services industry. She is the primary advisor for designing client retirement plans, investment strategies, and provides the leadership of the firm. Kathy is a Registered Representative and Investment Advisor Representative of USA Financial Securities member FINRA and SIPC, a Registered Investment Advisor. Kathy holds a bachelor's degree in Marketing from Michigan State University.
For over 17 years, Kathy has taught various pre-retirement and money management classes for General Motors and is a frequent speaker at In-Service Training sessions for State of Michigan employees. She has been a guest presenter for Clemson University’s Professional Development for Women conference held in Michigan and Illinois. Kathy holds the following registrations and licenses: Series 7 General Securities License, Series 24 General Securities Principal, Life Insurance and Variable Contracts Product Representative, Series 63 Michigan Uniform Securities Agent License, and Series 65 Uniform Investment Advisor.
Prior to forming Financial Independents, Inc. in 1997, Kathy was Senior Vice President with a private money management firm. Her experience also includes Sales Manager of an investment services program for a large mid-Michigan bank, and Financial Consultant for a nationwide financial planning company.
In her down time, Kathy spends as much time as possible with her husband at their place in Northern Michigan, and with family and friends. This also includes their family dog, Mr. Foxy, a rescue. She loves to golf and do crafts with her daughter. Love of Louie is a charity close to Kathy's heart. They are a Non-Profit helping animals.
